Awarded by the National Science Foundation PI: Jian-Qiang Su Wetland microbes play an important role in the material transformation and energy flow in the wetland ecosystem.Choosing the WuYuanWan urban wetland park in Xiamen, Fujian for field study, this proposal focuses on the microbial community and function in urban wetland. The project aims 1) to describe the microbial community structure in the wetland using 16S rDNA based pyrosequencing, 2) to investigate the shift in microbial community structure and functioal genes in a construted wetland of WuYuanWan urban wetland park using RNA extraction, mRNA enrichment, cDNA synthesis and metatranscriptome sequencing. Based on these studies, we would reveal the key microbes and functional genes related to the cycling of biogenic elements, especialy the nitrogen cycling, and obtain comprehensive understanding of genetic composition and functional activity of microbial community in urban wetland.
