Novel Enrichment-Catalytic Degradation Technologies for the Treatment of Organic Pollutants in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (MWTP) Effluent

This project aims to find a solution to effectively remove trace organic pollutants in the effluent the municipal wastewater treatment plants (MWTP) and to promote the water reclamation and reuse practice in our country. We are planning to detect, analyze and evaluate the structure, species and composition of various trace organic pollutants in MWTP, and then design and prepare specific photo-electrochemical catalytic materials for their efficient removal. The interfacial structure, reactive sites and electron transfer routes involved in the enrichment and catalysis process will be investigated. New techniques based on the use of nanomaterials will be developed to improve the enrichment capability and catalytic conversion efficiency of the catalysts towards trace organic pollutants; The mechanisms of pollutant adsorption and transformation will be explored; and a new process for efficient elimination of trace organic pollutants in MWTP effluent by in-situ “adsorption-photoelectrochemical transformation” will be developed. This project may provide promising new methods and technologies for MWTP to achieve water reuse.
