Project Title: Analysis and Simulation of Urban Thermal Landscape Pattern Change in an Urbanization Context
Project Type: National Natural Science Foundation
Project No.: 40901218
Project Awardee: Zhao Xiaofeng
Project Abstract: Scenario simulation of urban heat island changes with urbanization is fundamental for making mitigation strategies. This project took Xiamen as study area, used land surface temperature retrieved by TM/ETM+ thermal bands and landscape metrics to analyze the characteristics of urban thermal landscape pattern change in the past 20 years. Then combined with population, energy consumption data and land surface composition(vegetation, impervious surface, soil) acquired by spectral mixture analysis, the dominant driving factors of urban thermal landscape pattern change in the context of urbanization were analyzed and decided. After these two steps, the transition rules were extracted using data mining tool See 5.0, to construct a spatiotemporal simulation model for urban thermal landscape pattern change based on Cellular Automaton. The model was used to predict thermal landscape changes under given scenarios, to provide planning strategies for urban heat island mitigation. The implementation of this project would benefit for understanding the mechanism of urban thermal landscape pattern change, provide scientific basis in urban heat island mitigation for urban planning and management, and was meaningful for the implementation of urban ecological planning and the promotion of urban sustainable development.
