Project Abstract: Carbonaceous aerosol emission from costal urban area has influence on air quality and pollution in the surrounding, oceanic carbon cycles and global environment and climate changes. To assess and control the carbonaceous aerosol pollution, it is important to clarify the emission sources. We investigate the significance of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) on air quality at coastal urban area. The concentration and carbon isotopes (13C and 14C) of OC and EC from costal urban area (Xiamen and Shanghai) and eastward ocean area (island) are measured, making identification of the sources of OC and EC. With help of forward trajectory analysis, heavy air pollution days are intensively sampled to quantify the emission and transport of carbonaceous aerosol from coastal urban area. A dual-isotope (13C and 14C) tracer approach is proposed for the assessment of regional- and long- transport of OC and EC. We discuss on a newly effective dual-isotope method to monitor the emission and transport of carbonaceous aerosol in regional and global scales. This study should make the improvement of air quality in urban and the surrounding, and give a better assessment of environment and climate changes in regional and global scales.
