Project Title: Physiological ecology of hydrogen-producing acetogens in the fermentative bio-hydrogen processand its controlling strategy
Project Type: National Nature Science Foundation of China (NNSFC)

Project Approval No. 50808152
Project Awardee: Zhu Ge-fu

Project Abstract: In the project, the promising fermentative bioprocess that produces hydrogen from organic wastewater will be developed by enhancing the function of HPA. The abilities of HPA takes up and ferments the volatile fatty acids (i.e. propionic acid andbutyric acid) and ethanol that procreate from the fist stage to hydrogen will be investigated and enhanced. Here, HPA will be separated through Hungate technology and its ecophysiology will be exposed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP). The hydrogen yield and its stability from the bioprocess for hydrogen production from fermentative bacteria will be improved significant, through the function of HPA be confirmed by continuous model reactor.

Period of Project: 2009.1-- 2011.12

Fund of Project: 210,000
