Ecological and Health Risk Assessment of Typical Toxic Pollutants in Urban Environment
Update time: 2008-01-09 AUTHOR:

Typical toxic pollutants will be determined through investigation of different environmental media such as water, sediment and biota in Xiamen area, especially for heavy metals and persistent organic Endocrine Disruption Chemicals (EDCs). Fish (Vertebrate), Shrimp (Anthropod) or Mollusk with important ecological effect will be chosen as indicator or target organisms for in-situ Toxicity Identification Evaluation (i-TIE) and Dietary toxicity according to American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) protocols. Risks of pollutants will be assessed through biomarkers such as enzymes or proteins, so methods or systems of evaluation will be developed and main factors of risk will be analyzed, and some measures will finally be suggested to reduce risks of toxic pollutants.
