Risk assessment and ecological effects of the changes of urban water environment in Xiamen
Update time: 2008-01-09 AUTHOR:

The spatial pattern of water resource in Xiamen, which changed during urbanization development in different periods, will be investigated by the “3S” technologies in this project. Water quantity and quality will also be analyzed. To study the changes in water quantity and quality, and the reasons which cause the changes (i.e. hydro-pattern), some typical parameters (i.e. nutrients, heavy metals, and persistent organic pollutants) will be measured. Furthermore, the risks to human health and eco-environment will be evaluated. The objectives of this project are: to investigate water environment influenced by urbanization; to analyze the ecological stress by the varieties of water environment; and to guide water resource protection in sustainable urbanization.
