Study on Low Carbon Countermeasures of Urban Energy Use Base on Carbon Footprint Assessment

    Date:Oct 12, 2010

Sponsor: National Nature Science Foundation of China (NNSFC)

    Headed by Lin Jianyi

    Date: 2011.01-2013.12

Low-carbon countermeasure research of energy use is the key of developing low-carbon economy and low-carbon city. Currently, most low-carbon countermeasure research is based on direct carbon emission assessment. By synthetically considering the direct and indirect carbon emission based on carbon footprint in this research, the more comprehensive and more effective low-carbon countermeasures of urban energy use will be proposed for low-carbon urban construction. Xiamen city is taken as a typical study area in this project. Firstly, the carbon emissions of urban energy use will be appraised by carbon footprint hybrid analysis method. So the essential process of urban carbon emissions is promulgated and the reduction potential of carbon intensity industry is analyzed. Secondly, combing with carbon footprint analysis method, the urban energy policy evaluation model will be built based on the TIMES model. This model is used to simulate and optimize energy use under different scenarios of policy measures and to analyze the change of energy consumption and the carbon footprint under those scenarios. Finally, concluded from carbon footprint assessment with model simulating result, the feasible way and the accessible degree of urban carbon mitigation will be explored. And low-carbon countermeasures of urban energy use will be proposed based on the carbon footprint assessment to promote quicker development of Chinese urban low-carbon transformations.
