Study on pollution characteristic and source appointment of atmospheric haze in Xiamen

    Date:Jun 07, 2009

Project Title: Study on pollution characteristic and source appointment of atmospheric haze in Xiamen

Project Type: Program of the Bureau of Science and Technology of Xiamen

    Project Approval No. 3502Z20081117

    Fund of Project: 400,000 RMB

Project Abstract: With the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization in China, the haze aerosol pollution has become a hot topic and one of disastrous weather in urban. This research makes investigation on haze pollution in Xiamen. We observe the characteristic of spatial and temporal distribution of haze pollution. During haze episode, the aerosol particles were collected by quartz fiber filters, on which the water soluble ions, metal elements, particle size distribution, and elemental carbon and organic carbon were analyzed, and the aerosol of PM10/PM2.5 are also monitored continuously by special instrument. With help of the daily meteorological data and electron microscopic pictures, the source and formation mechanism of haze pollution would be assessed. This research will be useful for local and regional environmental policy on sustainable society.
