Rapid urbanization exerts significant stress on natural ecosystems regionally and has become one of the major drivers of global climate changes. At the same time, urban spatial sprawl and expansion of urban civilization impact greatly on the regional biodiversity and cultural diversity, which has attract more and more attentions from ecologist, sociologist, economist and urban planners. Urban landscape research uses a broad perspective to study urbanization and its interaction with natural ecosystem and human society. It is believed possess of the big potential to provide new theories and methods for urban sustainable development.
Responding to German-Sino Year of Sciences and Education 2009/10, Sino-Europe Workshop of Urban Landscape Research——Landscape and Environment Planning Workshop supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of Chinaand German Federal Ministry of Education and Researchwill be held in Xiamen in 2010. The workshop will be concerned with the multi-disciplinary understandings on and the conceptual, scientific, design approaches to urban land use. The further cooperation between China and Europe countries is also discussed and pursued during the workshop.
