On the afternoon of May 2nd, Mr. Zhisheng An, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Yonglong Lyu, distinguished professor of Xiamen University, visited the Institute of Urban Environment. Shaohua Chen, researcher and secretary of the Party Committee of IUE, and Yuming Zheng, deputy director of IUE, introduced the development history and planning vision of IUE to Mr. An and Professor Lyu.
An spoke highly of IUE’s positioning, development and achievements. Mr. An pointed out that the IUE was well-positioned with distinctive features, which was in line with national development needs and the trend of the times. IUE had established dozens of research teams in just over 10 years’ development. It was also impressive that IUE had cultivated an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Mr. An suggested that researchers of IUE could take "urban numerical simulation" as one of the key research directions and strengthen related research in order to better serve the major needs of smart cities, big data, intelligent decision-making, urban safety, and risk early warning.
