On March 9th, Boxing He, director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Ecological Environment, accompanied by his party, visited the IUE. Shaohua Chen, secretary of the IUE Party Committee and deputy director of the IUE, received Boxing He and his party. Guohua Bai, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the IUE, Yuming Zheng, deputy director of IUE, heads of related departments and representatives of scientific research backbones attended the symposium. Before the symposium, He and his entourage visited the Atmospheric Observation Station.

At the symposium, Chen first thanked the Xiamen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau for its continuous support to IUE, and then introduced IUE’s achievements of scientific and technological innovation in the environmental technology and ecological planning. He also expressed that he would further give full play to IUE’s advantages in the related research, enhance service capabilities in green development, smart city management and other research areas, thus providing more powerful scientific and technological support for the development of ecological civilization in Xiamen.

During the symposium, considering the situation of environmental protection of Xiamen, the key scientific research representatives put forward practical and feasible suggestions on Xiamen’s water environment, atmospheric environment, carbon peaking, and ecological protection planning.

Boxing He introduced the recent priorities of Xiamen's ecological environment protection, and highly acknowledged the role of IUE in advancing ecological progress of Xiamen, especially Jimei District. He said that the framework agreement on scientific and technological cooperation with IUE is the first one for the Environment Bureau in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan, which is of great significance. It is emphasized that in the future, the two parties will further strengthen the top-level design of scientific and technological cooperation, improve the special planning of ecological environment, systematically summarize experience in scientific and technological cooperation, give full play to the strength of local scientific research institutes, enhance scientific and technological support capabilities, in order to enhance the development of Xiamen's ecological civilization.

Jun Hu, Deputy Director of the Xiamen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau and Yuming Zheng, Deputy Director of the IUE, on behalf of their respective parties, signed a framework agreement on scientific and technological cooperation so as to promote the long-term, comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in the construction of demonstration zones of the national ecological civilization development, various pollution prevention and control and governance, the building of bases for scientific and technological exchanges and talent training for Xiamen BRICS partners in new industrial revolution, environmental monitoring data sharing, as well as training of talents mastering environmental protection technology.
