On April 17th, the mid-term evaluation meeting of the CAS Class A Strategic Leading Science and Technology Special Project " Technology Project of Ecological Civilization Development for Beautiful China" and "Ecological Development Project and Ecosystem Intelligent Management Demonstration of City Clusters in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" (hereinafter referred to as "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Project") was held at the IUE. The “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Project” was a five-year research project initiated on January 1st, 2019 and divided into 4 subjects and 17 sub-subjects, with IUE undertaking the project, CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), CAS Institute of Process Engineering, CAS Institute of Chemistry, CAS Institute of Soil Science, CAS Institute of Microbiology and CAS Institute of Architecture Design and Research participating the project. The project focused on the patterns of ecological environment change in the city belt of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the development framework of ecological civilization, the improvement of ecological service capacity and the collaborative governance of environment and other key scientific issues. The project will accept the mid-term assessment by the institute this July which is an important time for the project.
With Jingzhu Zhao, the researcher & project leader, as the leader of the expert group, the meeting invited experts to review the project, including Guohua Liu, researcher from RCEES, Professor Cao from Xiamen University, Limin Dai, researcher from CAS Institute of Applied Ecology, Professor Xiao from Guangdong University of Technology, Mai Ye, senior engineer of Guangdong Academy of Environmental Sciences, and Yuanguang Yang, senior engineer as well as deputy director of Guangdong Land Development and Rehabilitation Center. At the meeting, 4 subject leaders and 17 sub-subject leaders, according to evaluation indicators, respectively reported to the experts and members of the project on their subjects, including the achievements of the mid-term goals, the progress of scientific research and its results, organization and management, resource allocation, the next stage plan, and existing problems since the establishment of each project or sub-project.

During the meeting, Rencai Dong guided experts to visit the Science Exhibition Hall of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and showed the experts the comprehensive ecosystem monitoring technology & equipment and intelligent management platform for city belt in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the meeting, the experts pointed out that over the past two years, each subject research has been fruitful and been completed well, meeting the expected assessment requirements. It is recommended that the research team of each subject should clarify the technical direction in future results reports, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with teams of other subjects, summarize concisely the environmental issues in Greater Bay Area, highlight the practical significance of each subject, and ensure the effective promotion of research results and technology integration in Greater Bay Area.
