Roundtable on Governance for Urban Ecological Civilization -Systems Approaches for Urban Health and Wellbeing was successfully held in IUE from July 6th to 7th. This meeting was organized by the Urban Health and well-being programme (UHWB) and the "urban ecology and sustainable development research group" of the IUE, which aimed at the promotion of the construction of ecological civilization city in China, including several issues such as local urban governance, evaluation of accessibility of public services, sponge cities, garbage classification, construction of ecological facilities and mitigation of climate change. Professors from Berlin free university, Xiamen university and Zhejiang university, and senior engineers from the municipal sanitation center were invited to give a fantastic speech.
From policy governance perspective, expert from national development and reform commission, ecological environment bureau and other related agencies put forward a new task of the next step of reform of ecological civilization construction, and suggested that the ecological civilization in the future implementation of governance policies would need guidance from specific aspects, such as garbage classification and environmental education. It should make the ecological consciousness can really into residents' life and improve the public power which can effectively promote the construction of ecological civilization. Chen Shuilang from the secretary of Tianyang village in Tongan district of Xiamen introduced a series of rural revitalization work and prospects of this village. He said that the participation and integration of villagers, the establishment of core team, the introduction of university students and the guidance of party construction are important mechanisms to promote the rural ecological environment transformation. This conference better stimulated the communication and interaction among all social stakeholders on urban ecological civilization governance, which enabled policy makers to have an in-depth understanding of the problems faced by policy executors, and understand the complexity of urban issues through a systematic approach.
