On June 19th, the 2017 Cross-Strait Workshop on the Environment and Ecology was held in the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) successfully. The workshop invited more than 20 experts and scholars from famous universities, research institutes and enterprises in Taiwan to attend.
At the opening ceremony, ZHU Yongguan, director of IUE, and Professor JIANG Benji, specially-appointed professor of the Institute of Environmental Engineering of Taiwan University, respectively delivered speech. Both of them believed that scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should focus on the hotspots and difficult points of the ecological research, and jointly promote cross-strait academic exchanges, collaborative innovation and production-education-research cooperation, so as to give impetus to the ecological civilization and explore the frontier of environmental and ecological field.
After the opening ceremony, the experts carried out in-depth discussion on the topics of air pollution control technology, healthy watershed management, waste recycling and environmental functional materials and so on. In addition, they had an investigation to the pilot demonstration of biochar production from urban sewage sludge.
All the experts spoke highly of this workshop, they thought the theme of the workshop was very close to the needs of the society, and created a very good communicative chance for governments, universities and enterprises. We hoped to carry out substantive cooperation in scientific research, personnel training, conversion of scientific and technological achievements and so on, they said.
