At the invitation of the Key Lab of Urban Environment and Health of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Robert Gilmore Pontius Jr from the Clark University, U.S., visited IUE on May 28 and gave a talk on methods to measure and extrapolate land change. He introduced the application of a method called Intensity Analysis which is used to analyze changes in land use on interval level, category level and transition level. He also detailed simulation and demonstration of land use change in the future.
Prof. Robert Gilmore Pontius Jr, a veteran expert in the fields of GIS, ecological model and land change, established a quantitative method for GIS, remote sensing and statistics, which has been included in Idrisi software with more than one hundred thousand users all over the world.
