Prof. Christopher Rensing from the University of Copenhagen is now a part-time professor at IUE and will stay at IUE for at least one month every year. He delivered a speech entitled The Metal Core of Bacterial Virulence on April 9, 2014 as his inaugural lecture. He mainly introduced the connection between copper and bacterial virulence by elaborating on the transport mechanisms to deal with copper in bacterial cells. Attendees who showed great interests in this subject presented many questions and all received satisfactory answers from Prof. Rensing.
Prof. Rensing’s research field is environmental microbiology and he has authored more than one hundred papers, most of which were published in top journals such as PNAS, Environmental Microbiology and Applied Environmental Microbiology.
