The 11th China-Japan Symposium on Water Environment was held at the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), from March 21 to March 23, 2014. The workshop was hosted by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and the Japan Society on Water Environment, and co-organized by IUE, Tsinghua University, Yokohama National University as well as Kagoshima University. Dr. Yongguan Zhu, director general of IUE, Bin Yi, deputy secretary of Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and Koichi FUJIE, former director of Japan Society on Water Environment made welcome speeches.
Renowned experts in the field of water environment were invited from China and Japan to deliver keynote speeches about efficient protection and utilization of water resources in the process of urbanization. Nearly 60 scholars and experts from Open University of Japan, the National Institute of AIST, Kyoto University, Hiroshima University, Kogakuin University, Kochi University, the Japan National Institute of Public Health, Tsinghua University, National Sun Yat-Sen University, Xiamen University, Shandong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Yunnan University, attended the meeting and discussed current hot issues on water environment.
The China-Japan Symposium on Water Environment has been successfully held for ten times, since 1997 when the two countries signed the exchange agreement. At the closing session, Professor Hongying Hu from Tsinghua University summarized the outcome and looked back on the former symposiums. He also pointed out that the younger generations should take responsibilities for deeper exchange and cooperation between China and Japan.
