Ding Zhongli, Vice-President of CAS, inspected IUE on March 15, 2011, accompanied by Zhu Zhiyuan, Executive Vice-President of the Shanghai Branch of CAS, and Feng Renguo, Deputy Director of CAS Bureau of Resources and Environmental Science and Technology.
Ding visited the Institute park, the Research Center of Urban Pollution Control and Restoration, the Instrument & Equipment Center as well as the Digital Urban Environmental Research Center. He also listened to the report about the status quo of IUE and plans for “Innovation 2020” by Zhu Yongguan, Director General of IUE, and held talks with researchers and management leaders.
Ding spoke highly of IUE’s achievements during the past five years but suggested that the leaders of IUE should pay more attention to the following aspects:
First of all, learning to discover scientific problems based on national needs, analyze problems systematically and integrate the achievements of scientific research. Secondly, IUE should take advantage of the high-tech Shanghai Branch of CAS to solve problems which emerge during research work and heighten cooperation with other CAS institutes to achieve a win-win situation. Thirdly, seizing the opportunities of industrialization, urbanization and globalization, and closely connecting the research work to the economy to take a leading role in the field of urban environmental research. Researchers should think ahead and be more creative at the cutting-edge of sci-tech and conduct systematic research with its own unique features. At the end, Ding highlighted that the priority was to serve the local government and people, and encouraged staff to contribute to the prosperity and revival of our motherland, China.
