From April 4th to 6th, Prof. Hans Opschoor, Member of Royal Netherlands' Academy of Sciences, visited IUE and gave a lecture of “Beijing between Bali and Cancun: China and the International Climate Negotiations”.
Prof. Opschoor is a worldwide renowned expert in the field of environmental economics, a member of the UN Committee on Development Policy, and a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He was rector of the Institute of Social Studies from 1996 to 2005, chairman of Council for Environment and Nature Research from 1990 to1996, and director of the Institute for Environmental Studies, Free University, Amsterdam from 1982 to 1990. During his visits in China in the past two decades, he has made great effort to promote Sino-Dutch sci-tech cooperation.
