Peter Harrington, Deputy Director of Science & Innovation Network China, British Consulate-General Guangzhou and Sarah Zhang, Science & Innovation officer visited IUE on 1st September 2009. The Deputy Director from Xiamen Bureau of Science and Technology, Pingdong Xu joined the visit.
Peter Harrington stressed that British consulate-general Guangzhou would like to build more cooperation in the area of science and technology innovation in Southern China, especially in nano-technology, energy and environment, bio-medicine, informatics technology, food security and health, and stem cell research. The British embassy will be interested in facilitating more workshop and collaboration between British Research Council and Southern China to conduct two-way transfer, and evolving staff exchange and technology development. The deputy director of Xiamen Science & Technology Bureau, Pingdong Xu elaborated Xiamen’s advantage in the fields of electronic, software, ship manufacture, and LED industry. To find out mutual interest, both parties will strengthen futher cooperation and promote the industrialization process. Prof Yongguan Zhu, Deputy Director of IUE, outlined the research direction of the institute, and stated that IUE has already established genuine collaboration with Lancaster University, Aberdeen University, BBSRC in UK,expressing hope to tie more networking partnership with British Universities.
