The framework proposal of “Solving Critical Urban Environmental Issues: A Collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Rutgers University”, proposed by Prof. Shen Yu from IUE, CAS and five professors from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University (Rutgers SEBS), and New Jersey Agricultural Experimental Station (NJAES), has been granted by the Rutgers Faculty Clusters in Global and International Research Program. The director of NJAES, Dr. Mark Robson, presides over this program. The program will have two bilateral workshops, one holds in IUE CAS in December, 2008 and another at Rutgers University in the summer of 2009. The workshops will interactively discuss environmental problems faced in China and the USA during rapid urbanization. Collaborative intentions/ agreements are expecting to be established substantially between scientists and further collaborations will depend on development of the partnership. In December, 2008, Dr. Mark Robson will bring in a group consisting of 5 professors and 4-5 graduate students to visit our institute. The five professors engage in health assessment of urban environment (Dr. Mark Robson), Ecology (Dr. Joan Ehrenfeld), Environmental Microbiology (Dr. Max Häggblom), Environmental Soil Science (Dr. Daniel Gimeniz), and Economy of Natural Resources (Dr. Holly Crawford), respectively.
