The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific “Expert Group Meeting on Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Asia and the Pacific” was convened from 11-13 June 2007 in the Bangkok United Nations building, Thailand.

There were 35 experts attending the conference who came from the 11 countries in the Asian and Pacific region, as well as different International organizations. Conference members included high-level government officials associated with infrastructure from the central committee and other regions, experts from key sectors of sustainable infrastructure development (including energy, transportation, water and disaster), Urban planning members, representatives of government officials and personal departments, university and research centres, as well as National Organizations like UNEP, the World Bank and so on.

This conference was managed by APEC"s Environment and Sustainable Development. Department, and was for the purpose of providing the expert’s opinion to the “Development Account” project of Asian and Latin America"s ecology efficiency and sustainable city infrastructure development, deciding the project scope and strategy, and forming a project partnership. The project belongs to The United Nations Latin America and the Caribbean Economic organization unites.  At the same time, this project will cooperate with the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (UNCHS) during 2008/2009.

The conference discussed three issues of sustainable infrastructure development in chief:
1.What level can we firstly be involved in?
2.What methods about the sustainable city infrastructure appraisal can we find?
3.How to form a comprehensive frame of sustainable infrastructure development?

These issues were discussed and interchanged repeatedly by the expert group, and the conference made substantial progress, and achieved the conference"s anticipated target.
On the invitation of APEC ’s Environment and Sustainable Development Department,  Dr. Cui attended this conference on behalf of Director Zhao of the Institute of Urban Environment.
