On December 11-12 2007，Feng Renguo and Chang Xu, Deputy Directors of the Bureau of Science and Technology for Resources and Environment (BSTRE), CAS, and their colleagues from the Departments of Eco-Environment, Solid Earth Science, Atmospheric and Marine Science visited the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), CAS.

At the forum, Zhao Jingzhu, Director of the Institute of Urban Environment, CAS, introduced firstly the situation about IUE, and expressed hearty thanks for the support of BSTRE. Zhu Yongguan, Deputy Director IUE, then did a feasibility study report about the strategy of coordinated development of Fujian triangular urban agglomeration, and environmental complex pollution control.  This project is an innovation of Chinese Academy of Sciences. BSTRE delegates gave a full affirmation about this report, whilst at the same time also provided some valuable comments and suggestions. Feng Renguo hoped that training young scientific and technological personnel, especially young people below the age of 35, should be a key focus, and would further promote and strengthen the scientific research cooperation with local institutions.

Researchers Chen Shaohua, Zhang Kaisong, Yan Changyu, Cui Shenghui, and Associate Researchers Zhang Xian, Chen Jingsheng, and Cai Chao gave a report about the research work that has been carried out to date, and the possibilities of future work.

Feng Renguo gave a report about base construction of the field of Resource and Environment, CAS. Then, the BSTRE delegates and researchers of IUE had a spirited discussion, and answered some questions which were raised by the researchers. Finally, Feng Renguo gave a summary and some suggestions to the development of IUE, and hoped that IUE should form a very good research the cultural and core competition and create a favorable external environment, cultivate a group of innovative technical personnel, and continue to make innovations under the strong leadership.
