Prof. Yongxiang LU，President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, made an inspection tour of Institute of Urban Environment on September 23, 2006. After listening to a work report by Prof. Jingzhu ZHAO, Director of IUE, Prof. Lu fully confirmed the progress that IUE had made in the past. Prof. Lu pointed out that the mission of IUE was to promote scientific and technological innovation for ecological planning and constructions, environment and health, environmental protection and sustainable development to city and urban areas of China, especially in the estuaries of Yangtze River and Pearl River. He urged IUE to undertake innovative projects so as to provide solutions to the major strategic issues facing the country and render powerful support to the country"s sustainable development in the future.
