Professor Damjana Drobne from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia visited IUE for Academic exchange and further cooperation

    Date:Oct 24, 2018

Invited by Associate Prof. Dr. Zhuanxi Luo, Key laboratory of urban environment and health, Chinese academy of sciences, Professor Dr. Drobne from University of Ljubljana visited IUE during September 3-22, 2018. Her academic visits was supported by the bilateral cooperation project entitled “Arsenate accumulation in Daphnia magna influenced by titanium dioxide nanoparticles and its potential mechanisms”, which has been approved by the bilateral agreement of inter-governmental Science & Technology Cooperation between China and Slovenia (headed by Zhuanxi Luo and Damjana Drobne). In Sept. 5th, Professor gave us an academic talk to some of our researchers and students involving toxicological studies (Fig.1). During her presentation, Prof. Drobne demonstrated clearly the toxic effects of nanomaterials related to contact, uptake, fate and effects, and stated that this effects does not follow the conventional relationship of dose-effects. Furthermore, Professor Drobne had an animated and in-depth exchange and discussion with the audience after the presentation.

Additionally, Professor Drobne discussed comprehensively on toxic effects of emerging particles and further designed some important experimental protocols with Zhuanxi. And we had exchanges in-detail of sample preparations and observations of scanning electron microscope (Fig. 2). Accordingly, this academic exchange between Prof. Drobne and Zhuanxi Luo is fruitful, improving bilateral understanding and confidence to pave a road for project cooperation in the future.
