On March 17^th, invited by Key Laboratory of Urban Environment and Health, Chinese Academy Sciences, August Röhss Chair from University of Gothenburg, Sweden, CHEN Deliang visited Institute of Urban Environment and made an academic report titled “When did the Anthropocene start?”. The report was hosted by Director of Key Laboratory, Researcher ZHU Yong-guan.
During the report, Professor CHEN Deliang expounded the concept of Anthropocene, expressed how human activity influences the earth, introduced in detail how to confirm the origin of Anthropocene according to influence of human activity on evolution of the earth system and the response of the earth system to the influence and relevant research development, and answered the question of scientific research personnel attending the report.

CHEN Deliang is August Röhss Chair from University of Gothenburg, Sweden, an internationally famous climatologist, a academician of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a academician of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg, a academician of The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, has made important achievements in relation between regional climate and atmospheric circulation, climatic dynamics and climatic variation. He had held the post of the Executive Director of the International Council for Science (ICSU) during 2009 and 2012 and has made important contribution to global scientific research leading, coordination and cooperation. On behalf of 140 national academies (or scientific bodies/agencies) and 31 international scientific unions, ICSU played an initiative and leading role for the coordination of four global change research programs such as, IGBP, WCRP, IHDP, DIVERSITAS and Future Earth project. He works as science consultant and assessment expert for several governments and intergovernmental organizations and national research supported agencies and has participated in internationally famous research center and project as a member of Science Steering Committee or Council. He holds the post of judge of several international prizes such as the VOLVO Environment Prize and Olav, Thon, etc. Professor CHEN has founded the Regional Climate Group at the University of Gothenburg, which studies the regional climate variability, recent and future climate variation and large-scale atmospheric circulation in Sweden and China mainly via instruments, surrogate data and advanced statistical technology and climate model.
