From July 1^st to 3^rd, The 1st Seminar of Urban Environment Both Sides of he Taiwan Straits was held ceremoniously in IUE, CAS, Xiamen. The seminar aimed to promote cross-strait academic exchanges and cooperation and mainly centered on urban environmental scientific research, technical innovation and talent cultivation which both sides of the Taiwan Straits concern about. Director Yongguan Zhu of IUE and Distinguished Professor Zhongji Jiang of Institute of Environmental Engineering, Taiwan university made speeches respectively. And Director Zhu and Professor Jiang respectively made invited speeches titled Debugging to construct a sustainable water supply facilities in response to climate change and Antibiotic resistance genes pollution in watershed scale. Then professors and researchers from colleges of Taiwan, Xiamen, Canada, Beijing, etc also made wonderful conference reports. On the afternoon of July 3rd, the participating experts and scholars carried on a thorough heated discussion on aquatic environmental safety, contaminated site remediation, atmospheric environmental pollution controlling, sewage and waste treatment technology, etc in the form of roundtable forum. They exchanged their opinions about the current hot and difficult topics existing in urban environmental research and had communication and discussion about chances and challenges existing in environmental cooperation across the Taiwan straits. The success of the seminar contributed to promote the development of IUE and provided a platform for the experts and scholars cross-strait exploring technological frontier, sharing research results, communicating problems and challenges and cooperating deeply.
