At the invitation of the Key Lab of Urban Environment and Health of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)， Dr. Jack A Gilbert from the Argonne National Laboratory, USA, visited the IUE from Dec 2nd to 3rd, 2014.

Dr. Jack A Gilbert gave a lecture on Dec 2nd, entitled Understanding the human Microbiome: exploring the interface between man and the great indoors, which detailed microbial interactions between humans and indoor environments. He also elaborated its potential impacts on human health and potential applications in public health, forensic analysis as well as air quantity monitoring. After the talk, he discussed issues related to microbe and shared his research experience with IUE’s postgraduates.

Dr. Jack A Gilbert received his doctorate from the University of Nottingham in 2002, a subsequent postdoc in the Department of Biochemistry, Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada, and has made great achievements on microbial ecology research. His recent research mainly focuses on human microbe and its linkage with different environments. So far, he has published more than 80 papers in top journals, such as Science, Nature and Cell.
