The 1^st Ecotoxicology Symposium co-organized by the editorial department of Journal of Ecotoxicology, the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, and the Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), took place from April 23 to 26, 2014, in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province. Over 460 domestic and overseas experts attended and Prof. Lvjun Chen from Tsinghua University addressed the opening ceremony. 

Twelve keynote speeches were made on urban environment, ecological hazard, toxicological mechanism and environmental risk management, etc, which reported latest achievements in environmental process and exposure, as well as transfer, transformation and accumulation. Prof. Yongguan Zhu, Director of the Key Lab of Urban Environment and Health of CAS, delivered a keynote speech entitled Arsenic in Soil and Plant System: Toxicant or Sugar. 

After the plenary meeting, twelve parallel breakout sessions started with different topics such as computational toxicology, biological detection technologies, environmental exposure, environmental hazard, ecotoxicology, environmental toxicology and environmental genomics, where twelve Best Oral Presentations and four Best Posters were selected. 

The 2^nd Ecotoxicology Symposium is scheduled for July of 2015 in Xiamen.
