Dr. Donald Sparks, a member of the“Einstein Professorship Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, accepted the certificate of IUE Honorable Professor from Dr. Yongguan, Director of IUE, during his 5-day visit from the 17th to the 21rd of September. After his report on“The Critical Role of Environmental Science/Engineering in Addressing Global Challenges”,Prof. Sparks consulted with Dr. Zhu on bilateral cooperation. 

Beijing the former President of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) and the International Society of Soil Science (ISSS), Prof. Sparks has published more than 200 papers in Science, PNAS, EST and SSSAJ, together with 62 books on the kinetics of soil chemical processes. He has pioneered the application of chemical kinetics to soils and soil minerals, including the development of widely used methods, elucidation of rate-limiting steps and mechanisms, and the coupling of kinetic studies with molecular scale investigations, particularly synchrotron based x-ray absorption spectroscopy. He has also visited more than 80 institutes and universities of North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
