Prof. Chou-zen Giam, Vice Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in Uniformed Services University visited IUE during Aug. 20-22, at the invitation of Prof. Peng Cai, Vice Director General of IUE.

Prof. Giam made a speech entitled “Viruses and Environment: Lessons from Influenza and HIV” on the morning of Aug. 20. The contents of the speech include the histories of Influenza and AIDS, the propagation pathways of influenza virus and HIV as well as the pathogenic mechanism of the two viruses. Afterwards, Prof. Giam exchanged ideas with attendees pleasantly. All the attendees spoke highly of the speech as it had rich contents and was closely related to our daily life.

Professor Chou-zen Giam is on the editorial board of the Journal of Virology and Retrovirology. He has served on many US National Institutes of Health advisory panels on virology, HIV, and cancer research. He was a Specially-Appointed Panel Expert of “Experimental Virology Study Group” of American National Institute of Health, a standing member of the Taiwan National Health Research Institute, a reviewer for the Belgian Scientific Research Fund as well as Israeli Scientific Research Fund. So far, Prof. Giam has published a lot of research papers in many international top journals, like PNAS，EMBO Journal, JCB，MCB，JBC，Blood, J. Virology, and etc.
