On 17 August 2007, the pre-construction leading group for the Institute of Urban Environment held the 4th conference in Xiamen Yunhai Country Club. The IUE was jointly founded by Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Xiamen Municipal Government. Shi Erwei, Vice President of CAS, and Ye Chonggeng, Deputy Mayor of Xiamen City, presided the conference. Personage in charge of their respective responsibilities from the Bureau of Academy – Locality Cooperation, the Bureau of Resources and Environment, the Shanghai Branch of CAS, the Xiamen Development and Reform Commission, the Personnel Bureau, the Finance Bureau, the Education Bureau, the Science and Technology Bureau, the Construction Bureau, Jimei District and other units and departments participated in the meeting.

Members of the leading group scrutinized Zhao Jingzhu’s report entitled “Progress of the Pre-construction and Work Plan for the Next Stage”, and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the institute’s preparatory work. Problems encountered in preparatory work and their solutions were also discussed at the conference.

Before the conference was held, Vice President of CAS Shi Erwei and his entourage visited Xinglin Bay in Xiamen City and inspected the building site of the Institute of Urban Environment.
