The Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is the only national research institute dedicated to comprehensive urban environmental studies in the world. It has the right to confer master and doctoral degrees in Environmental Science and is located in Xiamen, a beautiful coastal city in southeast China. We are currently recruiting outstanding talents from both China and abroad for the overseas CAS “High-level Talents Program”.

IUE research fields include the urbanization process and major strategic environmental protection requirements. It is a pioneer in international urban ecological sciences and environmental science and technology, in particular the rapid urbanization of China's resources as well as energy and human health issues. It carries out theoretical research, technology development, system integration and demonstrations for the development of sustainable cities and communities and urban environmental protection policy. This includes the effects of biogeochemical processes, urban metabolism and pollution control, and urban development strategic, planning and management.

1.Research Field

There is one vacancy for each of the following fields: Environmental materials, environmental process control and energy saving technology, environmental process engineering/chemical engineering (resources for waste), environmental systems analysis and modeling, environmental information technology (intelligent city and traffic environment), and environmental systems biology.

2. Requirements

1)These vacancies are for researchers willing to take a full time job in IUE. Chinese nationals or foreign citizens who are not older than 40 years of age and in good health are invited to apply.

2)Applicants should have a strong interest in and dedication to this research field. They should be rigorous scholars who respect scientific ethics, be decent, honest and trustworthy, have respect for others, and be a good team worker.

3) Have a doctorate and at least 4 years continuous research and work experience in the related field, including experience gained outside PR China.

4)Have previously served as independent chair or been involved in overseeing research projects, and have a comprehensive understanding and a record of outstanding achievements.

5) Have a good record of academic attainment, having conducted research of international standard, having published influential papers in core journals, or having developed key technologies, significant inventions and patents.

6) Have academic influence in their research area both in China and abroad, be able to predict the development direction of the subject area, and be capable of the long-term strategic thinking necessary to be able to lead a team at the forefront of international scientific research and make innovations of international standard.

3.  Post and Salary

1) Successful applicants will be employed as Principal Investigator, Innovation Post

2) After the position is taken, IUE will provide starting funds according to the rules; applicants selected by CAS will also receive special funding from the CAS “High-level Talents Program”, including a special house-purchasing allowance;

3) In addition to the salary, allowance, welfare entitlements and so on, selected applicants will receive the Post Allowance of the CAS “High-level Talents Program” every month for three years;

4) Essential conditions for office work and research will be provided;

5) Applicants will be appointed as a student supervisor able to recruit doctor and master candidates, and will receive an additional teaching allowance for this work.

3) Provide certification of current overseas post and one copy of your doctoral certificate;

5) Provide recommendation letters from two domestically renowned experts.
