The Education Department is the competent department for graduate education of the Institute and also the secretariat of the Academic Degree Committee of the Institute. Its main responsibilities are as follows:

1. Implement the guidelines and policies of the state, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and Fujian Province on academic degree and graduate education; formulate and implement the medium and long-term development plan for the Institute’s graduate education in accordance with the Institute’s development strategy.

2. Formulate and implement graduate training programs and various management rules and regulations.

3. Organize the application for master’s and doctoral degree programs in line with the disciplinary development plan.

4. Organize disciplinary evaluation and monitoring work, and conduct applications for key disciplines.

5. Strengthen the construction of the supervisor team, organize the qualification evaluation and appointment of supervisors, and carry out educational and training activities for supervisors.

6. Compile and implement the annual graduate enrollment plan, undertake external enrollment publicity and consultation, and manage the entire enrollment process.

7. Be responsible for the enrollment, training and degree conferment of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and international graduate students.

8. Undertake the science-education integration projects between the Institute and universities, and manage the enrollment, training, degree conferment and student administration of joint graduate training programs at the Institute level.

9. Be responsible for the ideological and political education and management of graduate students, carry out mental health education and career guidance activities, organize various public welfare, cultural and sports activities, and conduct the selection and commendation of outstanding students; take charge of the management of the Graduate Student Union and other student societies, as well as the construction and management of the graduate counselor team.

10. Organize and implement the teaching of graduate courses.

11. Be responsible for the student status management of graduate students.

12. Construct the graduate education quality assurance system, organize and supervise graduate thesis proposal, mid-term assessment and thesis writing, arrange thesis defense and degree conferment for graduating students, conduct random inspection of academic dissertations, and strengthen quality monitoring and feedback.

13. Be responsible for graduate career guidance and graduation assignment, and undertake the contact with alumni and the management of the Alumni Association.

14. Be responsible for the disbursement of graduate scholarships and grants, graduate medical insurance, archive management, as well as the maintenance and information statistics of the relevant ARP system.

15. Manage graduate study abroad programs, organize academic exchanges and cooperation for graduate students, hold various academic conferences, lectures and exchange activities to promote disciplinary exchanges, enhance academic accomplishment and innovation capability, and foster a sound academic atmosphere and learning spirit.

16. Assist in the undergraduate enrollment work of UCAS.

17. Be responsible for the daily management of the Academic Degree Committee of the Institute.

18. Complete other tasks assigned by the Institute’s leaders and higher competent departments.
